Personal Information

LI: To identify what information is safe to share online and what information should be kept private

Private identity information:

• is information that should be kept private, such as your home address, bank account number and year of birth.

Personal information

• is information that cannot be used by identity thieves, such as your favourite food.                                   

Many sites we use ask us to share information online about ourselves. Remember that what you share with your friends may also be viewed by people you don’t know. Be careful who you trust online. Some people can access and use your information and pretend to be you. Giving out too much personal information can result in identity theft.

“Identity theft is when your personal information is used without your knowledge or permission.”

“Remember, what goes online stays online.  Forever... Hitting delete doesn’t ever change that.  So think first!”
